Troy and Charlie’s Suburban Resort
A BACKYARD THAT FLOWS
Troy and Charlie own a lovely home in suburban Naperville, and they were looking to increase the entertainment space in their backyard. They had an existing brick patio and envisioned adding a pool running perpendicular to the house, connected by a walkway to the patio. That’s when our design team stepped in with a unique twist on the concept.

The Best of Both Worlds
Installing the pool toward the back of the yard may have made sense with the significant change in elevation, but it would have separated those in the pool from those on the patio. Instead of fighting the elevation challenges, Montano’s worked with them, creating a stunning retaining and seating wall combo.
Not only does the wall add great visual interest and seating space, it also provides a juxtaposition of modern stone and lush, green gardens that thrive with the proper grading. The stone pavers provide a variety of color that nicely complements the existing patio and is in keeping with the classic, clean lines of the home itself.
With the pool positioned parallel to the house and just steps away from the fire pit and seating space, it flows perfectly with the rest of the design rather than feeling like an afterthought.
